A coordination model of the sexual division of labor

Article Abstract:

Sexual labor division can be explained by the coordination model where individuals who coordinate capital investment enter into marriage markets and become future household partners. A greater tendency to become organized along gender lines occur when no differences between sexes exist in productivity. The model integrates simple economic dynamics with complex social theories of sexual labor division without the dilemma of determining if it is the meaning of women's work or the labor division itself that determines women's social status.

Empowerment is considered a significant factor in the successful implementation of self-management cross-functional teams. However, its effects on product quality and profitability remain in question. The empowerment of managers can produce advantages in terms of increased productivity, improved training, and greater responsibility. However, empowerment may also introduce moral problems in the withholding of information in apportioning informational rents.

The Overlap Group is an organization of top northeastern colleges and universities that base their financial aid awards on the demonstrated financial needs of students and families. Its policies on aid distribution are contradictory to the traditional cartel theory. Financial aid coordination was aimed at solving problems associated with the allocation of elite students among colleges and universities.
