A note on Polish bank consolidation
Article Abstract:
A translog cost function framework was used to compare the banking approaches proposed by Bonin and Levin (1996) and Poland's Ministry of Finance. Results suggest that Bonin and Levin's proposal, which moves for the formation of three distinct banking groups, yield better results than the department's plan. Bonin and Levin's consolidation program, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and profitability of banks, allows groups to be treated as merger activities and evaluates them based on technical and organizational motives.

Comparative analysis of foreign and domestic bank operations in Hungary
Article Abstract:
Foreign banks in Hungary are more profitable than domestic banks because of their minimal consumer loans, reluctance to provide long-term loans and their low exposure to liquidity and credit risks. Moreover, The Hungarian banking industry lacks effective banking supervision and disregarded the importance of capitalization in improving bank performance. The findings are in contrast with a previous study which found no significant difference between the operations of foreign and domestic banks in the country.

Does ownership always matter? - evidence from the Indian banking industry
Article Abstract:
Analysis of ownership effects on company profits in a developing economy reveals that there is a weak ownership difference between private and public banks particularly in India. The study reveals that private banks tend to be superior to public banks with regards income earning potential and return on investments but differences in ownership structure do not translate to a significant comparative advantage in operational efficiency parameters.
