A theory of petty trading: The Jamaican higgler
Article Abstract:
A model that considers home production and time allocation is used to analyze the behavior of Jamaican merchants who rely on petty trading during their free time to augment their income. The law of supply and demand is not always applicable on such conditions because these traders have no other wage sources. It is suggested that governments, particularly those of late developing countries, should offer more and better job opportunities to these traders instead of increasing the fixed cost of petty trading.

International capital mobility amongst the major industrialized countries: too little or too much?
Article Abstract:
Economic theory has assumed capital to be perfectly mobile among nations. However, this assumption of international capital mobility is not supported by empirical evidence. The opposite hypothesis that international capital movements are limited is tested using data on capital flows among industrialized nations. Analysis of the impact of productivity shocks on the relationship between savings and investment reveals that capital flows have been driven by speculation rather than by economic fundamentals.

North-South R & D spillovers
Article Abstract:
Developing countries derive benefits from industrial countries' research and development (R & D). Empirical results suggest that developing countries' total factor productivity has a significant and positive relationship with their equipment and machinery imports, and the R & D of their industrial nation trade partners. Quantitative estimates indicate significant R & D benefits from the North's industrial countries to the South's developing countries.
