Bankruptcy and pricing behavior in U.S. airline markets
Article Abstract:
Airline operators seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection have been observed to adapt pricing behavior that weakens both their competitors and themselves. Studies showed that airlines actually cut prices by 5%-6% before filing for protection, but end with such limits as they prepare to enter Chapter 11 status. Such product and price market behavior is considered a normal business reaction for a company operating with financial problems.
