Bounding the effects of R&D: an investigation using matched establishment-firm data
Article Abstract:
The transferring effects of the location of the Research and Development (R&D) department is investigated. Data showed that plant production decreases due to the geographical and technological distance between the R&D lab and the plant. Also, knowledge may be applicable to one but may be less useful to another because of different circumstances in which it was developed. Furthermore, information leaks or spillovers are diluted as they pass from one firm to another and thus, may not be reliable.

Preemptive search and R&D clustering
Article Abstract:
Companies, despite the innate negative externality, originally share similar R&D strategy if development costs are relatively little, when the difference between monopoly and oligopoly profits is important, and when the likelihood of successful development of each technology is high, and the relation across technologies is positive enough. This explains the existence of a pure-strategy equilibrium in which various firms cluster, that is, try to create similar technology.

Dynamic R&D competition with learning
Article Abstract:
A differential game of research and development (R&D) competition having unidentified hazard rate was created to study R&D competition under a changing environment. Competition on the differential game created revealed declining rivalry activities among firms as evidenced by depreciation in their respective R&D investments. Firms studied also began to develop a pessimistic attitude regarding innovation as competition passes by.
