Car aftermarket - small parts
Article Abstract:
The UK car spare parts market is forecast to grow from 3,980 million pounds sterling in 1999 to 4,371 million pounds sterling by 2003. The market will be driven by a reduction in the number of people prepared to undertake servicing or repairs to cars at home, while the more complex nature of car parts will increase the number of people taking cars to professional garages for repairs. Women car owners tend to drive fewer miles than men, therefore demand for replacement car parts is less. A faulty battery is the major cause of breakdown in up to 18.3% of reported cases, while problems with keys or immobilizers cause 6% of breakdown call-outs.

Auto industrialization in southeast Asia: national strategies and local development
Article Abstract:
Toyota Motor Corp's production activities in countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have been studied. There appears to be an increase in the transfer of processes and products and this is encouraging the development of a middle class in ASEAN countries. A network is also developing between domestic and Japanese companies in ASEAN countries. Regional integration is helping the development of the industry in the ASEAN region. A horizontal division of labor appears to be the best way for the industry to develop in the ASEAN region.

Turkey's automotive aftermarket
Article Abstract:
The Turkish market for automotive aftermarket parts totaled $2.1 billion in 1996. Imports accounted for approximately $835 million, or 40%, of that total. The sales prospects for suppliers of aftermarket parts are good, in part because Turkey's automobile production is expected to reach a million vehicles per year by the early 2000s. The country's import procedures are complicated, making it difficult to succeed in the market without a good capable agent.
