Determinants of exurban indutrialization with local economic development implications
Article Abstract:
Exurban industrialization offers manufacturing growth prospects to rural communities which are gearing toward urbanization. The determinants of exurban industrialization such as manufacturing employment base, wages, value added and several socioeconomic factors were evaluated. The results showed that exurban regions possess both positive and negative determinants. Thus, they should create programs that would enhance their positive growth determinants and minimize negative factors.

Rural development planning: a time for change
Article Abstract:
Rural development plans initiated by the federal government are often shelved by rural leaders because many perceive these plans as irrelevant to their communities. However, it is argued that rural development plans can succeed if planners consider the unique characteristics of rural communities they are supposed to serve. The rural community development process is discussed.
