The catalytic effect of lending by the international financial institutions
Article Abstract:
The catalytic role of international financial institutions (IFI) in terms of lending to financially troubled economies remains unclear and unproven. IFI's catalytic effect effect is found to be a long-term phenomenon and is determined by the degree of contribution they made to enhance the economic conditions of the country they are operating in. The catalytic effect was greatest on private flows when IFIs were persuading private markets into lending.
