Collective action and the evolution of social norms
Article Abstract:
The zero contribution thesis - that self-interested individuals will not generally engage in co-operative action for mutual benefit - is evaluated in the context of collective action in the common interest. Various theoretical approaches and empirical research findings are discussed.
