Conflict and distribution
Article Abstract:
A behavioral model which seeks to explain the nature of social conflict to the distribution of individual characteristics within a society is discussed. Conflict is conceived as a condition in which without the existence of a collective decision, social groups with differing outcomes assume loses so that they may attain their preferred objectives. The model can explain dissimilarities in wealth, ethnicity, religion and ideology. Conflict is closely associated with the bimodal nature of the distribution of characteristics.

Egalitarianism and incentives
Article Abstract:
It has been widely accepted that the extent of egalitarianism as presented in the Bergson-Samuelson welfare function model is positively related to the degree of inefficiency in said model. However, this effect can only be achieved provided that actions subject to moral hazard are considered in the ex post evaluation of social welfare. The degree of inefficiency is indirectly related to the extent of egalitarianism as provided for in the model.
