Consensus in Russian economic and social policy
Article Abstract:
This article assess Russia's development since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s and explores the broad consensus concerning its future direction. The author discusses the structure of ownership, the balance between the private sector and the state, the different relationship that has developed between the political and economic order since the early 1990s, the failure of the earlier regime to plan for economic reorganization resulting in the lack of an industrial policy, the naivete of the economic elites in believing in global internationalization rather than promoting national security interests, as proven by NATO's military aggressions, and the need for a new economic policy based on the need to protect Russia's national interests.
