The UK retail market for cookware has grown by 18% in real terms in 1991-96, and was worth around 334 million pounds sterling in 1995. Vessel cookware accounted for 84% of the 1995 market by value and 79% by volume. The strong growth in the market during this period is due to factors including greater interest in cooking as a hobby, healthy eating and foreign foods: this has led consumers to trade up. Premium products, for example stainless steel, have also benefitted from more discerning consumer attitudes. However, future growth may be limited by demographic trends.

The United Kingdom retail market for wet blades and razors expanded 58% to 150 million pounds sterling in real terms during 1991-1995. Disposable razors accounted for 57% of sales by volume in 1995. Leading manufacturers Wilkinson Sword and Gillette introduced razors for women in 1993, with women's shaving preparations now also available. Manufacturers are increasingly offering shaving preparations for men which incorporate moisturizers in order to combat skin soreness. Manufacturers must target men aged 15 to 24 as shaving routines are generally retained for life.

Glassware
Article Abstract:
The glassware industry has performed well since 1993 due to improved personal disposable incomes. Total glassware sales valued 262 million pounds sterling in 1997. Retail supermarket chains have purchased an increasing amount of glassware from foreign sources. Own label and non-branded glassware makes up over 40% market share. Machine made glassware sales rose by 9.2% from 1995 to 1997.
