Creating an industrial property database (with GIS capabilities) for an economic development organization
Article Abstract:
Economic developers at Ocala and Marion County in Florida have developed a database of available industrial and commercial properties to help them respond to requests for information from prospective clients. The database was designed so that it could accept information from various sources and be readily integrated into a geographic information system for producing maps and responsing to spatial queries. The database was built using software packages for MS-DOS or Windows.

Pro-competitive economic development alliances are business-government partnerships aimed at creating long-term competitive advantages for specific industrial or technological clusters of firms. Businesses, for instance, can invest in new technologies to improve production, while the government complements this initiative by establishing worker training and business network programs. Partnerships in Long Island and California are discussed.
