Culture and its relationship to economic change
Article Abstract:
Culture tends to be ignored by economists, who see it as irrelevant or subordinate to the economy. Anthropologists class economic activity as one aspect of culture. A society's culture and its economic organization can be perceived as interacting, and this is a fruitful approach for economists. Cultural diversity brings higher transaction costs, but exchanges between cultures are valuable, and there is resistance to the imposition of a single, uniform culture world wide.
