Disease eradication: private versus public vaccination
Article Abstract:
The persistence of infectious diseases, such as measles, tuberculosis, and influenza, inspite of efforts from both the public and private sectors to eliminate them reflect the complexity of factors involved in attempts of disease eradication. The equilibrium determinants of demand for vaccines and disease dynamics play an important role in eradication. Results show that public health policies such as price subsidies that stimulate demand are ineffective in achieving eradication since the increase in demand of individuals under the programs decreases the motivation for vaccination of those outside the program.

An empirical examination of information barriers to trade in insurance
Article Abstract:
The study attempts to provide direct evidence on the degree to which asymmetric information affects trade in insurance market using empirical analysis. Bulk discounts, multiple contracting and a negative covariance between risk and quality was found which is opposite of the predicted pattern. The interpretation of this negative relationship is that insurers distinguish risk by underwriting and observing pattern in claims overtime and limiting courage to high-risk instead of low risk individuals.

Social welfare and measurement of segregation
Article Abstract:
An economic interpretation of developed measures of segregation demonstrates the difficulties and limitations of welfarism. Both an axiomatic characterization of commonly used measures and conditions on individual preferences under Pareto optimality are obtained. The limitations involved in using segregation measures for normative purposes are discussed. Results prove unable to incorporate aspects of segregation and require an absence of heterogeneity in preferences within social classes.
