Economic globalization from a broader, long-term perspective: some questions and concerns
Article Abstract:
Economic shifts between developed and developing regions have serious implications on the growth of the world economy. Labor and capital flows as well as risks of international tax competition and environmental degradation are among the diverse risks facing economic growth. The materialistic and egoistic attitude fostered by economic globalization and the struggle for material wealth have also raised spiritual concerns. A shift in focus from materialistic pursuits to spiritual values should thus be encouraged in the Western world.

The age of (Western) European integration: a history of trial and error
Article Abstract:
Integration in western Europe following World War II is analyzed based on the philosophy of the Council of Europe in 1950 that political and economic integration must be developed simultaneously. It is shown that although the creation of the European Communities facilitated economic and monetary cooperation, political integration remains out of reach because of member states' different perceptions about the process of European integration.

The velocity of integration: a comment
Article Abstract:
A study entitled 'The Velocity of Integration' concluded that the rate of integration of sovereign states in the US was faster than in Western Europe. However, a comparative analysis of historical facts pertaining to the integration of several sovereign states into France, Switzerland and the US reveals the rates of integration in the three countries were relatively the same.
