Economic growth in a cross-section of cities

Article Abstract:

The relationship between urban characteristics in 1960 and urban growth between 1960 and 1990 is analyzed. Income and population growth are directly related and both types of growth are directly linked to initial schooling, inversely related to initial unemployment and inversely related to the initial share of employment in manufacturing. Racial composition and segregation are not related to urban growth in all cities. However, segregation is directly related to to population growth in cities with large nonwhite communities.

Knowledge-based growth

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the impact of knowledge on economic development is presented. The analysis assumes that knowledge accumulation is endogenous and conditioned by optimal factors. It is shown that knowledge equilibrium price is superseded by future production value. The results imply that the situation does not follow Pareto-optimal conditions. In addition, the study shows the importance of agentknowledge stock and knowledge transmission.
