Economic reforms and agricultural development in Indonesia
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the influence of economic reforms on the agricultural sector of Indonesia. Economic reforms took the forms of import substitution and export promotion strategies which were implemented between 1970 and 1993. These led to rice self-sufficiency in 1984, the substantial expansion in commercial crops and poverty alleviation. Another positive development was the increase of the agricultural sector's share in total Gross Domestic Product. However, to sustain the growth of agriculture, the government should deregulate prices of agricultural inputs.

Economic crises and the debt-inflation episode in Thailand
Article Abstract:
Several factors contributed to the currency crisis in Thailand. The country's support of a fixed exchange rate and the currency and maturity mismatching among commercial banks promoted exposure to external shocks. They also promote concerns about the sustainability of the currency peg of the country's baht. Thailand should determine solutions to its debt problem to realize a faster recovery of its economy. In addition, the country's investment projects should be financed on domestic savings rather than on short-term foreign borrowings.

Agriculture in Thailand at the cross-road
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the impact of economic reforms on the agricultural sector of Thailand. Three major Asian events have made a positive impact on Thailand's agriculture, namely, the switch to export-oriented industrialization policy by Asean nations comprising Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia; the Plaza Accord of 1985 and the summit of the G-5 nations in Tokyo. It is expected that increased competition due to globalization will lead the agricultural sector to agro-industry which will generate employment.
