Policy reforms and agricultural development in the Philippines
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the impact of economic reforms on the agricultural development of the Philippines. Two government programs that had great influence on the agricultural sector were the nominal protection rate and the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program which was launched in 1988. Since then, the collateral value of farmlands decreased followed by the decreasing amount of loans. Poverty dropped between 1985 to 1988 but slowly increased as inflation rose. It is concluded that the agricultural sector's poor performance has constrained efforts to alleviate poverty.

Economic reforms and their impact on agricultural development in Vietnam
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the effect of economic reforms or doi moi on the agricultural industry of Vietnam. In the late 1970s, an agricultural management reform was implemented which preceded the more formal Resolution 10 made by the Sixth Party Congress in 1986. The resolution's provisions included the abolition of bureaucracy, the decentralization of decision making and the replacement of barter by cash transactions between cooperatives and peasants. The doi moi resulted in increased agricultural output and profound social changes in rural life.
