The phantom of capitalism in Russia (I)
Article Abstract:
This article provides a mostly historical perspective of the economic policies and development of Russia since 1861 when serfdom was revoked, and focusing on the condition of the pre-revolutionary economy. The author contemplates the existence of capitalist factors in 19th century Russia, its state of industrial development and its social structure; Russia is found to be ill-suited to building capitalism and the author suggests it will develop its own society distinct from the West.
