Environmental regulation, investment timing, and technology choice
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the influence of environmental regulation on investment decisions, in particular the technology choice of management. This investigation focused on the pulp and paper industry, a heavy polluter with a host of production technologies. Findings revealed that more environment-friendly production technologies are preferred in states with stringent environmental regulations. Moreover, abatement and productive investments are usually scheduled concurrently across existing plants. Nevertheless, those with high abatement investment have lower spending levels on productive capital.

The control of technology alliances: an empirical analysis of the biotechnology industry
Article Abstract:
An empirical examination of the assignment of control rights in technology alliances in the biotechnology industry was conducted. This study, which involved case studies and quantitative analysis, focused on agreements regarding R&D for new products and processes between biotech firms and pharmaceutical or larger biotech companies. Findings revealed that increases in the allocation of control rights to the R&D firm occurs with increases in its financial resources. However, the link between control rights and the project phase when the alliance was forged was unclear.

Technological diffusion with social learning
Article Abstract:
The slow pace at which technological innovations are adopted is explained through an analysis of the tendency of firms to await the results of their adoption by others and learn from them. This waiting game, basically caused by the uncertain profitability of the innovation, can cause significant delays in the adoption process. The nature of the innovation is, therefore, an important determinant of firm behavior.
