Transaction costs and capabilities as determinants of the R&D boundaries of the firm: a case study of the ten largest pharmaceutical firms in Japan
Article Abstract:
The transaction-cost theory and the capability theory that explain the determinants of the R&D boundaries of the firm, based on the case study of pharmaceutical industry in Japan are presented. The extent of procured R&D utilized by firms for outside resources in its R&D process are also highlighted.

Cooperative R&D and the Canadian forest products industry
Article Abstract:
A case study of the forest products industry in Canada is used to investigate the antecedents of cooperative R&D and the organizational forms of cooperative R&D. An industry with market failures can correct it through gaining cooperation from the industry with potential R&D consortia.
