Fiscal policy in Southeast Asia
Article Abstract:
The Asian financial crisis of 1997 may have been avoided through the implementation of a tighter fiscal policy. By raising taxes or reducing government spending, Southeast Asia could have achieved output-income equilibrium. Market exchange rates lower than the administered fixed rates would reduce the money supply, achieving equilibrium at a less inflated level.
