Oligopoly and quality Leapfrogging
Article Abstract:
A number of economic policies have contributed to the occurrence of product quality Leapfrogging. Leapfrogging occurs when inequalities exist between countries in terms of product quality and international trade. Governments and industries in countries that fail to cope with competitors in terms of profits are forced to resort to product quality Leapfrogging. The policies of the European Union (EU), which have Leapfrogging characteristics, include subsidies for research and development in value-added firms, such as telecom and information technology firms. The EU also has environmental, marine, and biological projects which promote the practice.

Lome versus free trade agreements: the dilemma facing the ACP countries
Article Abstract:
The dilemma facing member countries of the Association of Coffee Producing Countries in international trade is on how to pursue a common negotiating strategy that will represent their interest in the World Trade Organization. Members of the organization enjoy distinct trade advantages with trading partners, especially in terms of tariffs and quotas. But this advantage is mitigated by their inability to expand their markets. A common negotiating strategy calls for members countries to align their trading regulations to the concept prevailing in the World Trade Organization, that of lowering trade barriers.
