Formula approaches for market access negotiations
Article Abstract:
The need for improved market access conditions for WTO negotiations to effectively contribute to economic development is emphasised. The different approaches in use and their merits and shortcomings are discussed, and challenges faced in identifying the best approach to use are examined. Several formula-based approaches are studied with a background of the existing market access scene and its issues, and further, flexible formula approaches are developed. Finally, an initial sample of three industrial economies and three developing economies is used to determine the implications of the most viable approaches.
