Industry attractiveness, firm competence, and international investment performance in a transitional economy
Article Abstract:
The effects of industry structure and firm competence on the performance of foreign-funded enterprises during a period of economic transition in China were examined. Multivariate and univariate models were employed to analyze the data collected from four consecutive editions of 'China Statistical Yearbook' from 1988 to 1991. Results showed that industry sales growth and profitability improve the profitability and local market expansion of foreign-funded enterprises. However, the same industry attributes negatively affect the firms' export and risk reduction.

Economics of bail setting
Article Abstract:
An economic model for deriving the bail bond that ensures the appearance of a defendant for trial was described. The model examines the defendant's expected cost of punishment and the probability of rearrest if the suspect jumps bail as two important variables in the granting and setting of bail. Results show that it is possible to impose bail which is lower than the expected punishment cost. Thus, moderate bail may be set even for capital offenses.
