Inside China's cities: institutional barriers and opportunities for urban migrants
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze urban institutional barriers and opportunities for migrants in Chinese cities. Factors influencing the gap between rural migrants and urban migrants were identified. These include segregated labor market and occupations, low income and poor benefits, temporary housing, and absence of social integration. Results indicated the existence of restrictions designed to assure a steady flow of labor from rural to urban China and to ensure that rural migrants do not settle permanently in cities.

Measuring unilateral market power in wholesale electricity markets: the California market, 1998-2000
Article Abstract:
The unilateral incentives for excising market power by the five largest electricity suppliers in California's wholesale market during specific periods between 1998 to 2000 is analyzed. The firm-level measures of market power indicate that co-ordinated action by suppliers where unnecessary to bring about the substantial price increase. This increase was a result of the expected profit maximizing response of each of the suppliers to the bidding behavior of all other market participants in the California market.
