Results of a survey conducted in November 2003 in the United States by the National Federation of Independent Business Owners (NFIB), based on questionnaires sent to its members, report on interest rates. Four percent reported higher rates on new loans and seven percent reported lower rates, while the average interest paid on short-term loans rose to 6.3 percent.

It is indicated that the unemployment rate is likely to rise in the short term as labor force growth encouraged by a well performing economy could outstrip hiring.
