Intergenerational persistence of earnings: the role of early and college education
Article Abstract:
A study showing that investments by parents in education are likely to result in persistence of earnings across generations is presented. An econometric model that compares the innate ability and educational levels vis-a-vis persistence in earnings is also presented. The use of this study is of particular importance for evolving educational policy and other policies for eliminating the inequalities in earnings. The role of college education in generating persistent earnings is also discussed.
