International labor flows and national wages
Article Abstract:
The effects of international labor flows on the wages of nationals are examined in the US and other countries. Simple theoretical models suggest that income distribution is affected by two characteristics of immigration. These are the occupations in which immigrant workers are permitted to work and the suitability of alien labor as a substitute for local labor. The analysis contradicts the idea that international labor flows pose a big threat to local labor.
