Japanese investment in the United States: lessons for the economic analysis of foreign investment
Article Abstract:
The behaviour of Japanese investment in the US is basically similar to the foreign investment activities of other countries. Conventional foreign investment analysis can be used to explain the behaviour of Japanese foreign invesment in terms of its financial branches and transaction cost. Japan accounted for 31% of foreign direct investment in the US in 1987. The development of Japan can be directly linked to the behaviour of foreign investment in the US, particularly the declining cultural barriers, Japan's technological expertise and the influence of export market development on foreign investment.
