Latin American economic integration: a new perspective on an old dream
Article Abstract:
Major new trading blocs are being formed in Latin America, with foreign investment in the region rapidly increasing. The value of international trade by the nine latin American countries in the Andean Pact will reach almost $250 billion a year by 2000. Integrationist moves in the region are are occuring as Latin America becomes a growing global economic force, as well as occuring at a time when an increase in international trade and export promotion are beneficial for much of the developing world. The development of worldwide trading blocs are examined from a Latin American viewpoint.
