Maternal education and child attainment in Jamaica: testing the bargaining power hypothesis
Article Abstract:
Analysis of a sample of Jamaican households is undertaken to find out whether the educational achievement of a mother has an effect on the educational and health outcomes of her children. Results show a positive correlation between the two. This is especially true in Jamaica where education is considered both as a means towards earning more and as a status symbol. Mothers who have reached higher education tend to exert greater bargaining power in their households.

Specification and testing of Markov chain models: an application to convergence in the European Union
Article Abstract:
The Markov chain methodology and other log-linear modelling approach are evaluated and adopted to show tests of different properties of income dynamics in the EU regional economies. The Markov chain approach can effectively distinguish long-run properties of the dynamics including whether or not the inter-state policy is consistent with the limiting property of the system that is achieved. Empirical results explain even the most restricted hyphotheses.
