Monthly report - March 1999
Article Abstract:
A survey of small business owners and members of the National Federation of Independent Business conducted in Feb. 1999 revealed a decline in the Index of Small Business Optimism. This decline was accompanied by the deteriorating economic outlook of small business owners. Moreover, small business owners listed the quality of labor on top of the most important problems facing them. Nevertheless, small business sales remained strong in Feb. with higher selling prices. Lastly, small business capital outlays remained unchanged during the same month.

Monthly report - December 1998
Article Abstract:
The Index of Small Business Optimism in Nov 1998 showed a generally favorable trend with the three expenditure categories, namely, inventory investment, hiring and capital spending plans continuing to be viable. The overall index increased by one point from Oct 1998 reaching 101.0, using 1996 as the base year with 100 points. This figure was principally a result of the improvement in half of 10 components, with four dropping points and one standing fast to its position.

Small business optimism
Article Abstract:
Small businesses are pinning their hopes for growth on a resurgent economy. Although the Index of Small Business Optimism has remained at a low level in the last six months, it is expected to pick up in the second semester of 1995 as small businesses spend more on capital investments, hire more employees and invest in additional inventories. Lower interest rates on loans is another factor that is expected to result in small business growth.
