Mortgage industry turns up heat on fraud artists
Article Abstract:
The mortgage industry currently prevents mortgage fraud through greater cooperation among industry players as well as state and federal investigators. Through collaboration, fraud cases contributed by different mortgage firms can be accessed and investigated in fraud-tracking databases before loans are given out. The Mortgage Industry Data Exchange is one such database. Likewise, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has stepped up efforts to stop people who try to defraud the system. Mortgage fraud is committed via the required documents including application information, tax return, employment verification, bank deposit verification and appraisal.

Multifamily moves ahead
Article Abstract:
The improved multifamily market conditions in 1994 attracted real estate investors, stirring investment demand and lowering the overall vacancy rates from 9.8% in 1994 to 9.4% in the 1st qtr of 1995. They were also reflected in rents, which reached a break-even point for the first time since 1987. New multifamily construction also increased from 224,000 units in 1994 to 237,000 units for 1995. Market analysts say these improvements may signal the end of a cyclical downturn that began in the early part of the 1990s.

Rental market enters era of change
Article Abstract:
The multifamily housing sector is entering an era of change in 1996. This should serve as a warning to the apartment industry to become more flexible in dealing with the many risks that await them in this mutating environment. Accelerated growth of household demand could result in excessive construction while single-family rental homes could diminish tenant prospects. They should take the middle ground in formulating strategies for the future.
