Article Abstract:
An analysis of the widespread use of performance based pay and the social norms surrounding the concept of fair wage reveals that Performance pay is better than efficiency wages in industries where the cost of having a job vacant is higher than the cost of a worker remaining unemployed. Moreover, the study reveals that capital intensive industries pay more than less capital-intensive industries and that sustaining an efficient outcome requires a social convention similar to that of fair wage.
