No Tax Please, We're Business
Article Abstract:
Results of a study comparing the tax burden on businesses and employees in six Western countries by Britain's Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) are analyzed. Payment procedures of Social Security taxes and pension and health benefits, which vary in the different countries, have a significant effect in calculating tax burdens. Other problems with the methodology used in the study are cited. The study concludes that the tax burden has shifted from capital to labor in these six countries: France, Italy, West Germany, Japan, United States and Great Britain.
