Off Yer Bike
Article Abstract:
A search of journalist Duncan Campbell's person and house by British policemen did not uncover any incriminating government-classified documents. Campbell has been in trouble previously for receiving government information in his journalisitc snooping. The British official secrets act gives the government broad powers of search and seizure, and the freedom to determine what information should be secret. A committe recommends that the law be replaced. Freedom of information laws requiring the government to justify information classification are in effect in the United States and most of Europe.

Safe-Conducts and Safe-Houses
Article Abstract:
In the United States there are 105 sanctuaries, mainly in Christian churches, which offer Central American refugees lodging as they move through the underground system to communities of illegal aliens. The government, which previously tended to ignore the sanctuary movement, appears to have stepped up its investigation into the network. A variety of tactics are used to hoodwink the border patrol and police. The Mexican government is tightening its controls on Central Americans found north of Mexico City.
