On investment measures and trade

Article Abstract:

Trade related investment measures (TRIMs) can be viewed more as enhancers rather than mitigators of trade and economic development. TRIMs exhibit an initial distortionary effect only in the presence of investment incentives or protections, but these effects are soon mitigated by its effects on productivity, unemployment and the current account balance. The economy-enhancing effect of TRIMs can be achieved with the proper harmony of trade, investment and the business environment.
