On some statistical methods for modelling the incidence of poverty
Article Abstract:
A coherent approach to the estimation of conditional poverty indices is proposed. The method requires the estimation of a model of the income distribution conditional on a set of explanatory covariates using a semi-nonparametric specification, followed by calculation of any desired poverty indices from the estimated model. It avoids the three serious flaws that are evident in the logit/probit technique which is a common method of estimating the pattern of individual characteristics associated with poverty.

Specification tests for the competing risks duration model: an application to unemployment duration and sectoral movement
Article Abstract:
Three distinct approaches are formulated which are applied to a model of male unemployment duration to assess reemployment practices. The first is a general test for misspecification while the last two involve null hypotheses found on the boundary of the parameter space. The study shows that workers who are well matched at a given job or industry level may be less mobile across industries. The study also suggests that these workers have longer unemployment spells.
