On the existence of macro variables and of macro relationships
Article Abstract:
Prevailing economic literature holds that aggregating micro relationships and searching among the aggregates for stable macro relationships is useful. This proposition, however, may be flawed and may not be productive in real situations. A macro variable is one that measures an aspect of the overall dynamical system. Macro relationships will most likely be found within the parameters of system-wide properties' time varying probability distributions.

Multi-country tests for the oscillator model with slowly varying coefficients
Article Abstract:
A forced oscillator model developed for application to US data is applied to Canadian, Belgian, British, German, French and Italian data. The model's estimates, for all examined data sets, suggest that it may be applicable to a wide variety of consumer goods production indices. Estimates for French and Italian data partially contradict that finding, however.
