Overexploitation of renewable resources: the role of misperceptions
Article Abstract:
The problem of overexploitation in renewable resources and sustainable economic development was evaluated through an experiment involving reindeer quotas and the depletion of lichen through overgrazing. Defective management regimes are blamed for overexploitation due to incorrect policies of bioeconomics. Analysis shows that inefficient heuristics and static mental models can account for the observed overexploitation.
