Overview - small business optimism
Article Abstract:
A growth of 0.3 points was noted in the Index of Small Business Optimism for Feb. 1996, a decline that many believe is indicative of a weakened economy. The index shows that at least 20% of small businesses forecast a strong economy while 15% anticipate a sluggish one. Small businesses believe that capital spending, hiring and the abundance of job openings will influence the economic environment for several months. Taxes remain the most pressing concern of small business owners, followed by regulation and red tape, labor quality, competition from large firms and insurance cost and availability.

Overview - small business optimism
Article Abstract:
The small business sector continued to experience significant growth in Dec. 1994, with the Small Business Index reaching its second highest level since 1989 at 102.1 points. However, many small businesses fear that the new Republican Party-dominated Congress will impose new taxes which would only dampen the expected growth in 1995. Nevertheless, several businesses intend to spend capital to acquire new equipment, furniture and expand existing facilities.

Overview - small business optimism
Article Abstract:
The Index of Small Business Optimism went up by 1.1 points to 102.5 in Sep. 1995, returning to its levels in the early part of the year. Although GDP growth for 1995 is expected to be only half as strong as that for 1994, it is still indicative of an improvement in the economy. Since May 1995, prospects for business expansion have considerably improved.
