Own label food
Article Abstract:
Estimates suggest that own label foods will account for some 40% of the UK's packaged foods market in 1998, against 29.9% in 1993. The own label sector is worth about 13.8 billion pounds sterling. The manufacture of own label products is increasingly competitive, with leading players such as Mars being forced to consider own label production. However, increasing concentration in food retailing means that the penetration of own label goods is being halted because retailers are unwilling to restrict consumer choice. It is expected that the own label food market will reach around 17.44 billion pounds sterling by 2002.
