Piero Sraffa 1898-1983
Article Abstract:
The late Italian economist Piero Sraffa gave several contributions to the field of economics. He commenced his career as a monetary economist but gained prominence for writing two articles on the critique of Marshallian economics which gave rise to the theory of imperfect competition. Sraffa's excellent edition of the works of David Ricardo is hailed around the world as a benchmark of scholarship, providing a link between classical economic theory and growth and distribution. His most definitive output was the highly controversial 'Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities.'

Gottfried Haberler (1900-1995)
Article Abstract:
Gottfried Haberler was the last of the famous Austrian school of economics. Although Friedrich von Wieser was his direct teacher, it was the writings of Eugen von Bohm-Bawerk which influenced his work. He made his first foray into economics at the University of Vienna, where he wrote his maiden article in 1925 which critiqued Schumpeter's theory of money. Haberler was among the first to study the economic theory of index numbers. He passed away in 1995.

Martin Bronfenbrenner, 1914-1997
Article Abstract:
Economist Martin Bronfenbrenner was born in 1914 in Pittsburgh, PA, to immigrant parents of Jewish descent. Bronfenbrenner studied at the University of Chicago from 1934 to 1938 where he developed strong views on well-known personalities in economics. He started his career as a professor in statistics at the university before taking a position at the Central YMCA College Chicago and studying at the Northwestern University law school.
