Product diversity under monopoly: two high quality results
Article Abstract:
Profit maximizing tactics of a monopolist marketing vertically differentiated goods were studied by Mussa and Rosen. They support the idea that a monopolist will never make higher quality products than a competitive industry. However, the current study showed that a monopolist may produce higher quality goods than a competitive industry, if the invariance property is disproven.

Second degree price discrimination and natural monopoly
Article Abstract:
Research shows that a contestable market is capable of yielding a "no-distortion-at-the-top" result when prices are differentiated imperfectly by a monopolist and consumers are heterogeneous. Other findings are also discussed.
