Qatar: Doha to host MENA amid Arab objections...
Article Abstract:
The city of Doha, Qatar is expected to host the Middle East-North Africa economic summit on Nov 16-18, 1997, despite protests from other Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia. The economic summit aims to enhance economic and peace development in the Middle East by bringing together Arab, Israeli and international business interests. An American delegation headed by US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is also expected to participate in the summit. Saudi Arabia, as well as other Arab countries are protesting the summit in connection with Israel's move to build Jewish settlement near the Palestinian West Bank.

Article examines the investment climate in Qatar. Accordingly, considerable foreign direct investment in the country has been spurred by the development of the country's natural gas reserves in the North Field and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry. The country's new investment law is discussed.

Qatar getting ready to host WTO meeting
Article Abstract:
The November 2001 ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization will be held in Doha, Qatar, where officials hope that the riots and demonstrations seen in Seattle, WA, will be avoided. Increased costs and more complex logistics are expected to deter protesters from planning action there.
