Racial and ethnic inequality in the United States: a secular perspective
Article Abstract:
The dynamics of ethnic and racial group disparity in the US is longitudinally studied using the decennial censuses of 1880, 1900, 1910, 1980 and 1990. The study used the Duncan socioeconomic index (SEI) assigned to the respondents of the censuses. Native Americans, blacks and Mexicans have low SEI scores in all the five censuses. The Chinese and Japanese show a rising mobility across the five censuses. This upward trend is already evident between 1880 and 1910, especially for the Chinese.
