The shakeout in microcomputers: causes and consequences
Article Abstract:
Firms who were unable to survive the shake-out in the microcomputer industry from 985 to 1989 and the reasons behind their inability to adapt to the changesare discussed. The product-line strategies of industry competitors one presented as a unique data set to enable the comprehension of this critical period. It was found that a firms ability to produce high-end microcomputers, complementary peripheral products and compatible software determined its success in the microcomputer industry.

Strategic planning for the millennium: resolving the dilemma
Article Abstract:
The keys to an effective strategic planning are long-term commitment, understanding of its complexities, and a harnessing of strategic opposites. A deficiency and disruption in the organization's performance can result from focusing on one force while ignoring its opposite. Focusing more on the creative thinking, and on the strategic capability that should be met, rather than on the process are effective in attaining corporate success.
