The retail sector is currently undergoing a significant shift, in large part due to changes in demographics, technology and land use practices. As value-oriented and non-store retailing continue to grow, the industry expects to see a worsening supply situation. Both developers and owners need to gain an insight into the different components of a given market if they are to be competitive in the modern business environment.

Merging entertainment and retailing
Article Abstract:
Entertainment is becoming an increasingly important element in many retail developments today. Entertainment-oriented projects have become a trend, in large part due to factors such as changing demographics, market fragmentation and the growth of non-store retailing. However, such projects should also take into account the setting, the intended market and the specific economic objective.

Analyzing retail potential in rural communities: the Georgia Tech handbook
Article Abstract:
The Georgia Institute of Technology Economic Development Research Program developed a handbook for the analysis of retail potential in rural communities. In general, the handbook stressed the many economic benefits rural communities stand to gain by focusing their development efforts to the retail sector. A brief overview of the handbook's major points is presented.
